Let’s bike from Naples along the Amalfi Coast! We’ll spend a week traveling from Naples to Positano, Amalfi, and back. We’ll have a SAG vehicle following us and riders can ride at their own pace. For the first few days in Naples and Pompeii we’ll be staying in ocean-front 5 star hotels! In Positano and the Amalfi Coast we’ll stay in a more budget-minded boarding house. The pace will the fairly slow, averaging just 10 miles per hour, and a total daily distance total of 15 to 20 miles. Of course the tour guide we’ll follow at the pace of the slowest participant. We’ll eat well (all meals included!) as we enjoy the scenery. While some of the coastal roads are several hundred feet above the feet (this is Amalfi after all) the only challenging part will be across the peninsula to Positano. And of course with our SAG vehicle always with us, we can catch a lift at any point. We’ll also visit Pompeii and Herculaneum. So come join the fun!
Main sights
Located in Chiaia neighborhood, Grand Hotel Parkers is connected to a shopping center. Lungomare Caracciolo and Spaccanapoli are local landmarks, and some of the area’s attractions include Naples Aquarium and Via Caracciolo e Lungomare di Napoli.
Located in Castellammare di Stabia, Hotel Miramare Stabia is in the city center and on the waterfront.
Relais Il Sogno di Positano is located in Liparlati, a neighborhood in Positano. MAR Positano Roman Villa and Church of Santa Maria Assunta are local landmarks,
All fees, rentals, transportation, and meals are included. You’ll only need money for tips and souvenirs. This trip is fully SAG’d with a support vehicle following us each day.
Day 1, Sunday July 16: Depart
Take an overnight flight, arriving in Naples, Italy the next morning.
Day 2, Monday July 17: Arrival in Naples
Upon landing we’ll take a private transfer to our hotel in Nice, the 5-star Grand Hotel Parkers, for 2 nights, directly on the Mediterranean with incredible views from every room. The rest of the day is yours to relax on the beach or recover from your travels. That evening we’ll meet for a welcome dinner.
So we just show up and we’re already checked in with luggage in the room. The next day we ride to Positano (33 miles), along the Amalfi coast where we stay for three days. Take trip to Amalfi, tour the coastline, relax a bit, visit a vintner, etc. Then we’ll SAG back to Naples for departure. If you give you your email I’ll forward you the details once posted. Likely tomorrow.
Day 3, Tuesday July 18: Naples
Today we’ll see additional travelers joining us as an extension following the Tuscany or Croatia trips. After breakfast you’ll be fitted for your road bike which you’ll have throughout the week. We’ll then take a 3-4 hour cycling tour of Naples with our English-speaking guide. We’ll visit Lago d’Averno, the Flavian Amphitheater, and the Temple of Serapis. We’ll also visit a winery near the end of our trip for a wine tasting.
Day 4, Wednesday July 19: Naples to Pompeii
Today we hit the road. The SAG vehicle will flow us throughout the rest of the week to fix flats and if someone needs a rest! After breakfast we will ride the 16 miles to Pompeii, along the coast as much as possible, arriving around noon. Elevation climb is 300 meters. We’ll also enjoy a guided visit to Herculaneum. After touring the archeological sites with our guide we’ll take the short ride to the coast where we’ll check into The Hotel Miramare Stabia, directly overlooking the water. Our bags will be waiting for us in our rooms. We’ll enjoy dinner together as we enjoy the view.
Day 5, Thursday July 20: Pompeii to Positano
After breakfast we’ll ride to Positano, a distance of 18 miles. Elevation rise is 462 meters. Entire day trip will be along the coast until we cross the peninsula at Montechiaro (but don’t forget we have a SAG if you run out of energy). Once we arrive in Positano we’ll check into the Relais il Sogno di Positano, a clean guest house with great views of the sea below. Our bags will be waiting! After dinner, who wants to party?
Day 6, Friday July 21: Amalfi Coast
Today we explore the coast as far to the northeast as we want to go. We’ll certainly bike to the town of Amalfi and explore. Some may want to go further. We’ll meet back in Positano at the Relais for dinner nearby.
Day 7, Saturday July 22: Positano to Naples
After breakfast it’s time for us to head back to Naples. It’s a 33 mile trek and travelers can chose to ride all or a portion of it. We’ll stay at a hotel near the Naples airport that evening.
Day 8, Sunday July 23: Departure
After breakfast we board our airport transfer and head home.
You will need a current passport with at least 6 months left before expiration. Other than that, no documentation is needed.
