Join us as we relax in the high alps outside of Geneva, Switzerland in September! The weather is beautiful that time of year. We’ll stay in a magnificent gingerbread chalet with beautiful mountain vistas, and enjoy meals provided by a private chef. We’ll hike beautiful alpine meadows and explore surrounding villages by train. We’ll arrive Geneva late morning Saturday. From there we’ll board the excellent Swiss train system for a short 2.5-hour ride along the edge of Lake Geneva and up into the high Alps. The chalet is located in the beautiful alpine village of Chateau D’Oex, on the train line from Geneva. Then for the next 7 days we’ll hike, eat together, and explore the surrounding villages in the area. We’ll have a variety of things to do each day which you can either choose to participate in or not.
Our all-inclusive means that everything – yes everything – is included. Just bring tip money and money for souvenirs.
We will be staying in a private 5 bedroom chalet close to the village of Chateau D’Oex in the high Alps. More details to come.
Day 1, Friday: Departure
We take an overnight flight to Geneva to arrive mid-morning the next day.
Day 2, Saturday: Geneva to Chateau D’Oex
Upon arriving in Geneva mid-morning, we’ll take a private transfer directly to the Geneva Cornavin train station where we’ll board a direct ride up into the high Alps to the small alpine village of Chateau D’Oex. Be sure to grab your camera as the scenery will be incredible. We’ll then check into our chalet for the week, with spectacular vistas in all directions.
Day 3, Sunday: Chateau D’Oex
After breakfast by our private chef, today is our day to explore the village and the surrounding area. We may take a short hike in the meadows surrounding Chateau D’Oex to view the Alps and take in the scenery. In the evening we’ll gather for an authentic Swiss dinner at a fine restaurant in the village.
Day 4, Monday September 11 through Friday, September 15 – Exploring the High Alps
Once the trip sells out we’ll meet as a group to plan our exact itinerary for the week. Note that the average high temperature will be 70 degrees. We can select among a number of activities and sites, including:
Day 9, Saturday – Geneva
Today we take the train back to Geneva where we’ll check into our centrally-located hotel. After settling in we’ll take a half-day guided tour of this magical city.
Day 10, Sunday – Departure
Yes, all U.S. citizens are required to provide a current passport.
The official currency of Switzerland is the Euro.
As a general rule, we recommend getting cash from an ATM once we've landed in Geneva. All restaurants and shops accept credit cards.
Like most of Europe, tipping is not required and is not usually expected. It is however highly appreciated. This may be one way for us to give back to the local community.
As a tourist, if you do wish to tip, 10% is a standard tip for good service.
In order to ensure a smooth trip, you should follow their guidance on requirements and restrictions. You must have your passport and proof that you will leave before your visa or entry stamp runs out. A return flight ticket is the best method of proving this.
Your Costa Rica travel agency can highlight any extra requirements you may need to take into consideration.
The electrical outlets in Switzerland are typically the same as those used throughout Europe and the EU. If you are using a converter, ensure there are 2 round prongs. This should mean you can charge and use electrical appliances when needed.
Switzerland has three official languages - French, German, and Italian. We will be spending most of our time in the French speaking part of the country.
A lot of phones are now equipped with translation apps or websites that can help as well.
As with all of Europe all COVID vaccination requirements have been lifted. You do not need to show a vaccination card nor a negative test.
If you are traveling from the US, there is a restriction on how much cash you can carry when you enter and leave the country. At both points, you should have no more than 10,000 US dollars on your person.
In late July and early August the temperature in and around Chateau D'Oex will be a high of 70 and a low of 60 at night.
Switzerland is six hours ahead of US Eastern Time Zone.
What an amazing trip to Switzerland. I took the more adventurous route and did some hiking into the Alps themselves. That may have been a mistake LOL. Made some lifelong friends. Thanks for putting this trip together guys.
